I’ve gone back and captured some of my older posts from CozyCampus - I have limited these to threads I believe have some use to the newbie adult webmaster; posts that detailed some of my errors and lessons.

These won’t be in any paticular order.

URL redirects??

I was running an Alexa report, and got the following error:

ERROR: The URL ‘http://www.sexslavestgp.com’ redirects to ‘http://www.******/’. This may cause the site crawler to miss much of your site’s content. Please use ‘http://******/’ as the URL instead.

I’ve gone directly to my address, and had a problem once going to a weird site; other then that, I’ve actually gone to my site (I’ve only seen the redirect once, in other words).

I’ve checked my metatags, and seen no redirects, gone to my registar and verified that the domain hasn’t been forwarded, and tried looking on Google for a similar issue.

I had let the site slide for a coupla months, so I’ve got no idea how long this may have been an issue. I’ve also ran a whois on the the target site, but I’m not complaining until I know there is actually a problem.

Anybody familiar with this kind of situation? What other things do I need to be looking at?

I dont see anything on your page for a redirect. Only thing maybe sextracker counter, I know there is a lot of talk about them, but dont “think” they could do something like that?

Seems only thing left would be your host has or had something messed up. Of course if it was your pc redirecting, would probably be spyware. But with alexa saying it, does seem weird.

Was the url it redirected to yours?

no, it’s not one of my sites. I’m not even sure it’s a problem. I only saw a redirect once.

I just want to make sure there’s not one before I start promoting the site again.

Does alexa ever give funky results?

I’d say you have something funky going on because I tried to go to your site and got a page with this error.

Error:
Could not open directory “toplist”
Make shure it exist and it is writable

Edit: I went back and reloaded and the page loaded fine. I don’t see anything in the page source that would cause the problem, but I’m suspecting something odd is going on with your host.

You’ll get this wobblyflip now and then if you are running virtual hosts on a server. For some reason Apache will cough and serve up a page from another domain. I’ve had it happen very occasionally.

Just bad luck.

I’ll check with my hosting - yeah I’m using a virtual host. I just wasn’t sure if there was actually something there.

I was about to start cussing out the admin to the “target page”, but since I could only create the problem once…

Where you referring to sexslavestgp.com or the url in your profile? At first I thought you were talking about the url in your profile. However if you mean sexslavestgp.com, I receive the following:

upallnite pointed me at the problem. whe I ran the whois on the site the traffic is being sent to, the admin shows up as icefire.org, which is part of the overkill empire. I didn’t pick up on that at first.

I knew there was a 1% skim, but thought the skim came off traded traffic. if thats coming off incoming traffic, i’m going to need a new script, esp. the first hit from a visitor never sees my site.

uggggh, live and learn.
